“The Fortune Cookie” has long been one of my popular Billy Wilder movies, and I was glad to peer it’s release on DVD, especially in the modern widescreen format. While the movie and performances are grand (especially Walter Matthau in his Oscar-winning turn), and the script by Wilder and I.A.L. Diamond hits the target, I was very disappointed in the lackluster transfer to disc that this unqualified classic received. Certain, the letterboxing is sizable, but halfway through the film, the sound quality takes a turn for the worse – less audible, and almost scratchy at times. Plus, the only “extra” is the recent trailer, and there is no additional booklet. Surely a genius like Wilder deserves better preservation than this!

If I had to purchase a single movie showing Walter Matthau’s genius as an actor, this may be the one, for as superior as Jack Lemmon always is in a movie, Walter shines here as the shyster brother-in-law lawyer, and the Best Supporting Oscar was awarded to him rightly for this role. Matthau, always the man who acted through sicknesses went through a heart attack during this one. The scene that he runs up the stairs after receiving the settlement check, a alive to glimpse could watch that he is thinner at the top of the stairs. That was because he shot that scene after his attack. This movie begins the long association with Lemmon/Matthau. The next movie was to be “The Unusual Couple”. What a tremendous bunch of tantalizing movies they were. And this was the first one.

I am not going to preface this with any sizable statements about being a BSG fan from day one. If I am taking the time to write this, you should suspect that already.

This movie really works in that it is a detached narrative in a very noisy room. It is about how life finds ways to disrupt our plans but not always in a unpleasant design. It is about reconciling what you deem you want with what actually want. It is about learning “the truth” isn’t always in the friendly unlit and white places we do. It is about savor in all its forms.

First, about the nudity. It exists. Score over it. BSG was never a “family grand” indicate given its themes, so if you were expecting something different here, then you are about to be sadly unsuitable. There are no basic cable broadcast guidelines to satisfy, so a epic can be told in whatever method the storytellers wish. Instead, it has decided to do something bold: to mumble an entirely novel anecdote that connects with what we already know, happening at the same time as what we’ve seen during the first two seasons of BSG.

It’s the epic of how the Cylons, each in different situations and living amongst different humans were in fact influenced by those humans. We observe them developing advantageous empathy, and content abhor. We peruse some renouncing their Cylon identity because of what they’ve done. We view them questioning their actions. We peruse them at their most shining, but also at their most incompetent. We perceive them for what they truly are: the putrid creations of rotten creations. I personally enjoyed Burst Angel, but I realize it is not for everyone. It seems to be a series that is either loved or abhorred. While the traditional category might be more proper for me than the latter, I will try to be as fair as possible with this review.

A futuristic Tokyo is plagued with crime. The imperfect agency RAPT is in charge of keeping the peace, which is of slight comfort to the city’s upstanding citizens. As if that was not enough to retain the average Joe on edge, there is a secret lab that has managed to fuse organic cells with machinery, creating the ultimate weapon. This city needs a hero. They are getting four.

Jo, Meg, Sei and Amy are Tokyo’s Batman, though the Sunless Knight has never looked this generous in a bikini. The buxom beauties, with a itsy-bitsy serve from their friends and giant robot, Jango, strike scare in the hearts of criminals, and are the only ones equipped to seize on the menacing bio-machines.

The spaghetti western overtones sets this series apart. It is an wonderful mix of east meets west, venerable v. current. Mech battles often resemble a high noon duel more than a worn battle of the titans, while the many gun play scenes could easily choose spot in a dusty street of a ghost town. All this while a Spanish guitar plays over a jazzy progression. However, the western feel never smothers the futuristic urban vibe. Meg and Jo’s clothing is a valid example – contemporary with a western trot. The balance is perfect.

The memoir is easily the weakest piece of this series which can be a deal breaker depending on your taste. While it’s an absorbing premise, the chronicle is never fully fleshed out. The girls relax, Meg is kidnapped, the girls fight bio-machine, Meg is rescued. Lather, rinse, expose. There are no twists or surprises, fair straight up action. There are a lot of sub-plots going on, but none of them are fully realized. For instance, it is hinted at that Jo and Meg are more than objective friends, especially in the final episodes, but this is never fully realized. Had this conflict been more in the forefront from the beginning, Meg and Jo would have been more three dimensional. You would care about them, and the decisions they invent. All the characters suffer from this same bellow – they are 2D.

The action, however, is suitable. Bullets flee, explosions erupt, and buildings crumble. Battles are always like a flash paced and sharp. In between the action, you are beat over the head senseless with fan service. Panty shots are frequent to the point that you begin to see when you’re NOT staring at Meg’s cotton clad crotch. The girls clothes couldn’t possibly glean any skimpier. The lower half of Sei’s breast are always exposed, Jo wears diminutive more than a pair of panties, and at least one of the terrible girls wears even less. This said, it never feels sleazy for the sake of sleaze. However, there is one episode, which takes situation at the beach, that is a bit over the top. All four girls are clad in very revealing bikinis. Meg’s bottoms barely cloak anything while Sei’s breasts struggle to speed her skimpy one section. While it is treading sleazy water, it is unbiased one episode.

This box place includes all 24 episodes as well as the OVA, Burst Angel Infinity. Infinity digs a runt deeper in Meg and Jo’s background noting of valid substance is revealed. It shares the same weaknesses and strengths of the series as discussed above.

Burst Angel had huge potential, but it feels half baked. The spaghetti western overtones and frequent action is unbelievable, but there is shrimp else beyond the surface. The writers attempted to earn some deep, three dimensional characters and even added the resemblance of what could be subplots to beget us care about them, but this too ended up an uncooked, gooey mess. This is not Elfen Lied – amateur philosophers need not leer this. However, if you can forgive the structural short comings, you will be rewarded with a kick butt action packed jiggle fest lightly seasoned with a chilly spaghetti western vibe.

This anime was really generous in alot of ways. With this boxset you also pick up the OVA which is really generous since it explains more about the two female main characters and their past. I don’t know what it is, but this series has a little feel of Heavy Metal mixed with like Bulky Metal Horror!. I don’t really know how to justify it without giving any spoilers away.

It’s actually not as violent as you might put a question to and the characters really depend on eachother. Jo the main herione while cool to some mild has a tight nit bond with Meg. They have been together since the begining. Unfortunatly I don’t want to go into too considerable detail, but I do recommend the series. I am positive one of the other reviewers might have explained it better, but I am trying to stop away from possible spoilers.

The nation was starving for something outside the box and outside the typical routine T.V. shows that overwhelm our video box every night, and not to my surprise… THE UNIT actually locked in a solid rating. Was the spot of the world we’re in the reason for the people who tuned in? Was it the fact that Dennis Haysbert who was a lot of people’s celebrated character from the fracture FOX hit, 24? Was it the no holds barred, no mercy, no sugar-coated story-telling way?

This movie is snappily becoming a classic. It was well written, acted and the cast was blooming. Though the cast was of African American actors, this is movie for all ethnic backrounds.It tells of a group of college friends that reunite for a wedding, but the wedding itself is not the narrative, its a semi-ficticious book written by one of the friends. Why is the book so paramount? Its actually a legal myth of events that had occurred between the friends when enrolled in college. The movie also gives an honest depiction of quality of the up and coming African Americans in the entertainment industry. Everyone did a masterful job! I could not imagine anyone else playing in their roles. The directing was sizable and the ending was expected but piquant. I cried!Terrance Howard should have been nominated for an award for best supportng actor. He made this film as realistic as your reunions with your families and friends. Don’t miss this!

First of all I would like to say that I saw the movie 20 times in theaters.This movie really hit home.Being a 22 year weak african american I can really narrate to the movie.The cast was a perfect choice. Looking from the Director’s point I can understand why he would release such an graceful anecdote.I totally own this is the best shadowy film ever made because there was no violence and the characters were veteran enough to procure the responsibility of the mistakes they made in the past.What a splendid wedding.I personally hope one day to meet a partner as sweet and adorable as Lance Sullivan(Morris Chestnut) .I truly hope that more movies similar to this background will be released. What I mean is we need more sunless films that are upscale and sophisticated instead of ghetto and violence.This film is a must to add to your video tower.

This is a must peer movie. A perfect mix of drama, romance, and comedy. The acting is shining and the chemistry between all the characters very believeable. Strong performances from the cast makes up for the brief moments that the dwelling falters. But over-all the script is pleasant and boldly takes on the self-hatred and homophobia that religious teachings have been brainwashing people with for centuries.

Wes Ramsey (The Guiding Light) gives a amazing performace as shallow party boy Christian who accepts a bet with his friends that he can seduce his original neighbor, closeted Mormon missionary Aaron Davis, wonderfully protrayed by Steve Sandvoss. Sparks soon skim and romance ensues between the accurate, naive Aaron and the carefree Christian. Aaron is both drawn to and disgusted by Christian, who he sees as shallow and vain. But the audience and Aaron soon learn that there is more to Christian than his party boy ways and one-night stands. Of course it all hits the fan when the budding romance of Aaron and Christian is discovered by Aaron’s fellow Mormon missionaries. Aaron is sent home in shame to face his family and church while a serious misunderstanding leaves Chris devastated, his life forever changed by the encounter with Aaron.

Ramsey and Sandvoss have tremendous chemistry and both do a astonishing job of bringing their roles to life on-screen, making Christian and Aaron complex and rich characters. Completing the cast is Jacqueline Bisset as Christian’s motherly and compassionate boss Lila. Rebekah Jordan as Chris’ roommate and best friend Julie, a would-be singer. Amber Benson (Buffy: The Vampire Slayer) as Chris’ friend and co-worker Traci, a struggling actress. Scene-stealer Khary Payton gives a humorous performance as the HIV+ Andrew, another pal of Christian’s. Erik Palladino (“ER”) appears as a man dying of AIDS who Chris befriends. Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Ryder, one of Aaron’s fellow missionaries. And Mary Kay Space gives a strong performance as Aaron’s unforgiving religious mother.

But the overall reason to explore this film (and peruse it again) is the sophisticated manner in which C. Jay Cox explores one spot of religious issues in the complex pattern of same sex relationships. This is an shiny, droll, tender, and absorbing movie. Recommended.

I’ve practiced yoga at home for about 10 years without abet of personal instruction. I possess over 20 DVD’s on yoga and at least a dozen books on the subject because although my life does not allow me to glean out and go to classes, I am a very serious student. Sadie moves through everything slowly and carefully. If you are a beginner or restarting after taking too worthy time off (raising my hand) this gives you plenty of time to adjust to getting into the various poses. If you’ve built up some stamina and you know the routine well, this slowness really forces you to design grace, strength and really challenges your stamina.

The routines she has outlined is quite a bit like buying several DVDs in a space. Sadie could easily have made about 4-6 separate DVD’s with the material she offers but she found a plot to give it to you all in one DVD. Sadie doesn’t cheat you anywhere during the workout. If you can’t last through the whole thing – I was struggling toward the destroy. I impartial backed off and trusted that with time I would rebuild my endurance. The restorative phase is often rushed through in some DVD’s in order to squeeze in a lot of poses but Sadie is very conscientious in this region as well. I admire the draw she takes you through the restorative phase and oh dear, it was really well-known by the time she got done with me.

She also includes several preset sequences, which, as the previous reviewer mentioned, are lengthy but so very worth it.

Lastly, Sadie has a mountainous narration shriek, and bless her, she avoids the goofy yoga metaphors and descriptors when she’s detailing the poses. Awesome!!

Friends – The Complete Fourth Season is one of Friends’ best and most memorable seasons. While the Robotech account is current, tubby of action, and human emotion; the second act was lacking many of the things that made the first one so irresistable. Dana Estimable is the main Character, buring the whole things she note miniature in leadership skills and acts more like a child. Though in the books it’s differenet ( hard to score but worth the effort of getting) I accept myself comparing the prove to the books, while the Macross expose and book runs very well as one the Masters is isn’t. Dana in the books is more of a leader with a Rebal edage. Then a kid with a hoovertank.

Due to horrendous advertising that buried most of the movie’s charms, most people reflect this movie is a b-grade kiddie flick. But ignore the brainless trailers and the poor extreme-sport ad campaign that accompanied the video release, and you’ll be rewarded with an fabulous film.

The Iron Giant is complex and sophisticated enough to be a live-action movie, indeed more complex and sophisticated than the movies that trounced it at the box office (I’m talking to you, Inspector Gadget) . It is a distinguished achievement of all the elements of a movie working at their very best.

The visuals are unbelievable. The script is comical without resorting to cheap laughs. The characters are well-rounded.
