In one the the best remembered films of the thirties,Bette Davis gives beautifully modulated performance as Judith Traherne, the dying wealthy Long Island playgirl. Geraldine Fitzgerald is apt as Judith's friend and secretary, Ann King,a character written especially for the movie. Humphrey Bogart plays Michael O'Leary, an Irish horse trainer with somewhat less conviction, although George Brent gives his finest performance as Dr. Frederick Steele (whom Judy eventually marries.) Ronald Reagan (in a role he reportedly despised) plays the extinct, drunken Alex, one of Davis's swains. Davis is fair throughout; her Judy is wild, irascible and cheeky in the beginning and her improbable metamorphisis to a vibrantly jubilant and humbled young married woman is arresting to peer on film. Legendary columnist Hedda Hopper claimed Davis always gave her best performances when she was in like and here it was apparent (the object of her affections was George Brent!) .The distinguished planting scene in the garden had to be re-shot many times; Davis felt such empathy for her character that she would be reduced to tears. Tallulah Bankhead flopped when she played Judith Traherne on stage in 1934. Highly recommended as a prime example of unbiased why people rave about this legendary first lady of the silver cover!

"Shaded Victory" is atypical for a Hollywood movie made in 1939 [or for that matter, for one made today] because it deals with terminal illness and it doesn't have a overjoyed ending. The medical profession wait on then was less unbiased about the subject. A celebrated arrangement was to sigh the patient that they were doing glowing, even when the prognosis was negative. This false practice and other factors date the movie, but Bette Davis' attractive performance as Judith Traherne always has and always will elaborate the movie. For that reason alone, it is unexcited eminently watchable.

Judith is a vivacious, carefree member of Long Island society. Her passions are parties, her friends and her horses. After being thrown from her celebrated horse, she admits to her best friend, Ann [Geraldine Fitzgerald] that the cause of the accident was a sudden blurring of her vision. This, she admits, is not the first time she's had this pickle. After remarkable cajoling of the stubborn, fearful Judith, Ann gets her to a specialist, Dr. Frederick Steel [George Brent], who diagnosis her as having a rare illness. An operation, which is unsuccessful, ensues, but the truth is withheld from Judith. During all this, patient and doctor plunge in esteem with each other. Both the illness and Steel's well intended but deceitful contrivance of dealing with it led to serious complications.

Fitzgerald is satisfactory as Ann, George Brent [a matinee idol in his time] is adequate, but Humphrey Bogart, whose stardom was sill several years away, is wasted as Michael, Judith's horse trainer. His Irish accent is not at all first-rate. You'll hardly explore, though, because your thoughts and eyes will always be on Davis. She displays virtually every human emotion, seemingly without wretchedness. One of her sizable scenes is the one in which Dr. Steele is examining her for the first time. Her whisper is lustrous and contented as she makes light about her predicament, but her eyes and hands are telling us something completely different - fright to the point of apprehension.

Reams have been written about how difficult Davis was to work with. In "Sad Victory", one can behold portion of the reason. She was so gifted that finding someone who could successfully play opposite her must have been a nearly impossible task. She made movies in which, I suspect, she was so mad and/or wretched that, consciously or not, she played a parody of herself. These movies created Davis the caricature. "Black Victory" is not one of them. Here, Davis brilliantly plays an ordinary woman dealing with her absorb mortality. Highly recommended for this reason alone.

Batman: The Valorous and the Valiant is a stout present. I expected to dislike it, since I like a more serious Batman. Instead, I've found that I really savor the note, and even though it's a lighter interpretation of the character, it's respectful of Batman, and it could be taken as a unique translation of the golden age Batman. The stories are well written, the animation is handsome, and everything else is well done too. The exhibit gets 5 stars from me.

The presentation it's getting on DVD, however, gets zero. Unfortunately, once again, Warner Bros is being greedy and trying to rip people off as they have before. They got me before on Batman, The Interesting Series, Batman Beyond, Justice League, and The Batman. Why can't they release the whole season and give the fans what they want?? Don't capture these dumb single disc "volumes," because eventually, the whole season will be released, and this will have been a destroy of money. Who the hell wants to have objective 4 episodes of a series? I like this point to, and I want season sets, and until then, I'm not gonna descend for this crap again.

Let me add my issue to reiterate what several others have already said. The Demonstrate itself is awesome. But this business of releasing 4-episodes-per-DVD has got to halt, WB! What, you believe unbiased because it's a kids' demonstrate that parents are dull and will cave in to the small tykes' screaming and demands to assume this?? Unpleasant value-for-money. Wait, wait, WAIT for the exhibit to be released properly as a complete season boxed region with commentaries and special features.

Shame on you, Warner Brothers!!!

When a British friend asked what I knew of classic British composer, R. Vaughan Williams, I blinked. That would be ... nothing. Although, as it turned out, when he snappily sent me a two-and-a-half-hour video to educate me, I did know more than nothing. I unbiased didn't know that I knew. But as the documentary unfolded, my ear picked up a string of symphonies and a few sweeter melodies that I had known quite well. Only, shame on me, without giving due credit.

So this is R. Vaughan Williams. With attractive scenery that made me want to book a brand to the United Kingdom, but now, as backdrop, a kind of mix of biography and history and imagined perception (the composer's) unfolded. This is the residence and time that formed the musician that created the music. Indeed, to know and witness all of this enriches conception and appreciation of the music. Williams is often called a composer of folk melodies with a classical slant, but the documentary, interspersing soaring orchestras with crashing waves--the Sea Symphonies were easily my favorite--and unpleasant war scenes and interview snippets with doddering, elderly British ladies, speaking of the composer's bushy eyebrows and tormented marriage (he loved his wife, but soon after marriage, her failing health became a essential utter), proves the point most eloquently that Williams is far more than folk tune composer. He is a composer on a gargantuan scale. He has written scores for movies in his time, music that climbs mountains and builds suspense and melts into romance. He has peaceful symphonies that are complex and splendid. He can write the sweet melody that resonates in your mind all day long, but he can also write the sweep of crashing symphony that shakes the listener to the core ... as only worthy music can.

The video is long and highly detailed, but a visual treat as well as informative. I now know not only the music, but the man and the history slack it. The British are welcome here.

Tony Palmer's film biography of Vaughan Williams presents the composer as a complicated genius and superior spirit who endured powerful frustration, disappointment, and tragedy in his life and expressed it in his music...a far yowl from the favorite image of RVW as sentimental folk tune recycler. The legend is establish forward using interviews and file voiceovers (most notably from RVW himself, his widow Ursula, and biographer Michael Kennedy, but including a wide, and sometimes surprising, group of talking heads) . Beautifully filmed and gradual paced, the film helps confirm Vaughan Williams as one of Europe's (not honest England's) greatest 20th century composers. Excerpts from musical performances--newly recorded as well as file footage--give strong implicit evidence that Vaughan Williams was also a mammoth symphonist. Palmer makes a mistake with the expend of graphic tedious 20th- and 21st-century war and famine footage in an attempt to reinforce his otherwise well-founded argument that RVW's music is tragically pessimistic and relevant in the unique world; however, these few moments are only a shrimp blemish on a highly successful and personal portrait. Highly recommended.

I've purchased every disc release of this movie: the expensive LaserDisc collector's location, the recent DVD release and the subsquent Director's Reduce, and this original Blu-Ray of the Director's Sever. The Blu-Ray release stands head and shoulders above the rest for recount quality, color, and sound.

My only gripe is that the modern theatrical lop is not available on Blu-Ray as a separate item or as an alternative viewing option on the Director's Lop. The theatrical slash is the one that most of us saw first and saw over and over again over the course of some 20 years before the Director's Carve was released on DVD.

The additional footage in the Director's Sever is enchanting but, to me at least, seems intrusive. It interrupts the trot and tempo I am conventional to. There is also a brief scene of female nudity that seems a bit gratuitous. The scene does, though, lend some weight to a scene later in the film where you peek Constanze's start hostility toward Salieri. Normally I'm not one to complain about a limited female flesh being exposed, but I reflect the film works well enough without it.

Other "recent" scenes follow delicate great the same description: they are engrossing but their necessity is debatable.

There is one exiguous addition that I did devour, though. Early in the film, during one of the scenes where the elderly Salieri is confessing (? ) to the young priest, Salieri is recounting the episode when he first met the young composer Mozart he'd heard about for so many years. He was blown away by his talent but outraged and offended by his peurile behavior. He insisted to the priest that such talent (evident in one composition in particular) could not and should not exist in such a vile and crude child. That shimmering composition simply HAD to be an accident! Salieri's lines are briefly extended in that moment, and it adds a fantastic touch of menace. I can't understand why it was gash from the unique release.

The LaserDisc release included a astounding behind-the-scenes documentary called "The Last Laugh". So far I haven't seen it included in any DVD or Blu-Ray release. I'm holding on to my LaserDisc player for precisely that reason. Add that documentary to this Blu-Ray release and you have a slam-dunk 5-star product.

Depending on the release version, this Blu-Ray movie may reach in book obtain and include a short bonus CD of some music from the film and a recount booklet. If you bought/buy the version that comes with the bonus Digital Copy of the film (available at some retailers but harder to fetch online), believe in mind that the Digital Copy is NOT compatible with iTunes and cannot be loaded to your iPod. There is no wording on the package to explain this. One has to commence the Digital Copy booklet to fetch that out. The Digital Copy booklet looks the same on the outside as the booklet for the Digital Copies of other movies that ARE compatible with iTunes, so a consumer who has purchased iTunes-compatible Digital Copy-included DVDs before could reasonably take this one would be compatible also. That consumer would be snide. Nice bait-and-switch, don't you judge?

If you got the non-book version of the Blu-Ray, it probably didn't approach with the bonus CD, booklet, or Digital Copy.

I saw this movie awhile attend and it was an fabulous movie. I unbiased have one expect what is the incompatibility between this version and the Booklet style bluray that has already been released? Is it WB objective double dipping again or does this version of the film have a better transfer than the previous one?

Every review of Le Cercle Rouge uses the word cold because Melville's movies epitomize frosty. This is a world of policeman and thieves, all dressed to the nines, all possessing three facial expressions: frigid, resolute, and...build that two expressions. The design they light cigarettes has undoubtedly caused lung cancer in thousands of schoolboys aspiring to frosty. Melville's movies play like Hemingway's prose reads.

The version I saw is a newly restored, uncut version of Le Cercle Rouge from Rialto Pictures, sponsored by Melville fan John Woo, and it's touring capture cities in the United States in 2003. It is far marvelous to the edited, dubbed version which has been the only version available in the States until now. Let's hope this uncut version makes it to DVD soon to come a wider audience.

A criminal named Vogel (Gian Maria Volonte before his spaghetti western heyday) is being escorted by a policeman named Mattei(Andre Bouvril) . Vogel escapes during a express scramble. Meanwhile, a thief named Corey (French movie idol Alain Delon, as impeccably groomed as ever) who spent five years in prison and never ratted on his boss is finally released. A immoral cop fills him in on a potential heist. Corey wishes to resist, but cannot. He cannot change his nature, or his code. Vogel and Corey infamous paths, as foretold by the made-up Buddhist quote that opens the movie which says that sure men are destined to meet in the red circle. They team up for the heist while the policeman stalks them.

Many words are former to narrate Melville movies, and all are correct to some degree. Film noir: no doubt Le Cercle Rouge has the tragic inevitability and stern idea of human nature characteristic of film noir. Existentialist: Melville's heroes design their maintain choices and glean responsibility for their natures. The definitions of cold and existentialist have blurred in our society. Spare, austere: the soundtrack is minimal to non-existent. Economical--Melville's movies bear the most efficient gestures and dialogue in any movie not a tranquil film. Le Cercle Rouge features trenchcoated descendants of Humphrey Bogart and a long, near-silent heist which is itself a parent of countless movie heists since. Alain Delon's characters in Le Samourai and Le Cercle Rouge are the predecessors to so many movie heroes: De Niro's character from Heat, Chow Yun Plump in The Killer, Takeshi Kitano in Fireworks, Bruce Willis from Pulp Fiction, Forest Whitaker in Ghost Dog, even Keanu Reeves in The Matrix. Melville is a director's director.

One day, you and Le Cercle Rouge will inevitably be drawn together in a theater with red chairs. All men.

The premise is simple: a man named Corey (Alain Delon) is released from prison but is unable to avoid his randez-vous with destiny. Good, this had been tried before Melville made The Red Circle. However, substantial photography should grab you within minutes: wintry, dissolved hues framed by a skilled illusionist. The scene in the muddy field registers as one of the best of noir cinema: Vogel (Gian Maria Volonte), an upredictable and doughty fugitive meets the stark, taciturn Corey. Only significant dialogue here, a gesture with a toss of pack of cigarettes and the sublime theme calm by Eric De Marsan - the circle is now half-drawn and this movie genre has never since been the same. We never quite eye a fork in the road for any of these guys: Corey, Vogel or Jansen, a cop-turned-gangster played by Yves Montand. All three, in spite of their efficiency, travel closer and closer to an inevitably tragic waste. Thus sets a feeling of temporariness. Whether it's a few thousand franks, a life of a goon in pursuit, or a near-encounter with a lost resplendent woman - it is an mark as lasting as a puff of smoke from a Galoise. Andre Bourvil created a most convincing portrait of a passe policeman, whose final coming to the table is as assured as that of Bergmanesque Grim Reaper. Explore the game unfold, while also enjoing the unbelievable piano arpeggios, brass sections, and a bunch of fabulous supporting-role actors.

"Can't express. Can't act. Balding. Can dance a diminutive." Hollywood narrative has it that that was the record on Fred Astaire's initial RKO shroud test. Not a very auspicious launch for a stage dancer trying to procure a foot in the door of Hollywood. His movie debut was in a 1933 MGM movie titled "Dancing Lady", wherein Fred had a fleeting cameo as himself. But it was later on in the same year that Fred really made the movie audience sit up and pay attention, when he got fifth-billing in RKO's "Flying Down to Rio."

The situation focus is mainly on the inconsequential appreciate triangle of Dolores del Rio, Gene Raymond and Brazilian tenor Raul Roulien and it takes area in Rio de Janeiro. He plays Fred Ayres, sidekick and wingman to Raymond's Roger Bond, who does all the heavy load of skirt-chasing. Fred has a relationship with Ginger's Honey Hayes, but it seems to be strictly grounded in friendship, though flirting occurs. It won't be until his next movie The Ecstatic Divorcee that he becomes a romantic lead, the girl in examine being, of course, Ginger Rogers. It's a bit ironic to me, though, that the more toothsome verbal exchanges seem to grasp spot between Fred and Honey, with the amorous Roger and Belinha (del Rio's character) trading the more routine banter. But probably, I'm biased.

The Astaire and Rogers partnership starts innocently enough with the curious musical number "Music Makes Me" but the duo's chemistry is in full-blown reveal with the eleven-minute-plus-long "The Carioca", a song-and-dance routine that called for the participators to dance with their foreheads pressed together. Oh, Fred and Ginger don't dance for the entire length of the number but, apparently, the audience saw enough to leave a lasting impression. Astaire gets his only singing assignment at the finale, warbling the title song as an extraordinary and disconcerting Busby Berkeley-type aerial routine goes underway. Sandwiched somewhere in the middle of the film, Roulien also croons "Orchids in the Moonlight".

This movie became a financial success, which pulled the RKO studio out of imminent bankruptcy. Variety magazine reviewed the movie thus: "The main point of Flying Down to Rio is the mask promise of Fred Astaire.... He's assuredly a bet after this one, for he's distinctly likeable on the mask, the mike is kind to his speak and as a dancer he remains in a class by himself. The latter observation will be no news to the professsion, which has long admitted that Astaire starts dancing where the others conclude hoofing". With only Raymond and del Rio in the cast, this would've been a 2-and-a-half star rating from me, not terrible but nothing special. As it is, I'm dropping down 4 stars on Flying Down to Rio, for frothy, provocative musicality and its historical significance in filmdom.

Oh yeah, Gene Raymond gets the girl in the destroy.

Flying Down To Rio featured the astronomical Delores Del Rio as Belinha De Rezende, a wealthy Brazilian young lady who must enter into an arranged marriage; and Gene Raymond playing Roger Bond, an American band manager who falls in fancy with her practically at first ogle. RKO intended for Flying Down To Rio to be a vehicle for Gene Raymond and Delores Del Rio. Rather unexpectedly, however, two other people stole the show: Fred Astaire as Fred Ayres, the band's accordionist and Ginger Rogers as Honey Hale. Audiences were very impressed and never forgot them; Fred and Ginger continued to earn mammoth movies together for quite some while to advance.

But I am getting ahead of myself--by about several reviews or so! In Flying Down To Rio you acquire an American band rather former to being out of work hasten by ladies' man Roger Bond; a curved Greek syndicate; an aerial flying demonstrate with dancing girls on the wings of the airplanes, fresh found worship on a supposedly deserted island that turns out to be Haiti; the biggest and best Carioca dance scene you ever did see; and a stuffy archaic aunt looking after Belinha to beget determined she enters into that not so perfectly arranged marriage. So, you may ask, how do these all fit together? Well, this is a 1930s musical designed to distract Americans from the Expansive Depression, so the retort is easy: they DON'T always fit together well. The area resembles a buffet where you rep a tiny bit of a lot; and certainly not all of the characters have depth to them here. Gene Raymond injects a lot of exertion to act rather convincingly as Roger Bond who is deeply in like with Belinha De Rezende; and Delores Del Rio plays Belinha beautifully.

At the same time, we witness Fred and Honey (Fred and Ginger) unprejudiced beginning to shine and they easily rob the reveal two or three times throughout this record. The Carioca dance scene is choreographed to perfection; and Fred and Ginger work wonders together throughout the rest of the film, too.

Will Belinha marry her husband to be Julio (Raul Roulien) and station aside her somewhat impulsive amorous feelings for band manager Roger? Will the band catch work in Rio? Will the hotel where the band wants to play be able to stage a point to if their permit is fouled up? Why do the Greeks want to purchase over the hotel? Sorry folks; no spoilers here--if you want to know the answers you'll fair have to gape the film to regain out!

The choreography shines through best with the numerous extensive song and dance numbers that are peppered all throughout the film; and the cinematography is rather fine. The people are well framed on the conceal when they need to be and there are several scene changes that remove status with lines running across the veil to show that we are jumping to another plot for the next scene. This was considered graceful cinematography in its day.

The DVD has a couple of extras but if you score this DVD the film squarely remains the main event. You come by a comedy short entitled Short Beer and Pretzels with Ted Healy and His Stooges and a cartoon entitled I Like Mountain Music.

I highly recommend this film for fans of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers especially since this was their first film together. Their dancing even then was outstanding, to say the least. People who savor musicals from the golden age of Hollywood should accumulate this film, too, to appreciate the numerous song and dance numbers. The dancing isn't always the best, but you will like these musical numbers anyway.

The first disc features 11 deleted and extended scenes. There's more of the opening ambush with Tony Stark being more proactive. We also inspect more footage of Rhodes and it like a flash becomes apparent that he was the character with the most scenes crop from the film. We also recognize Tony and Pepper Potts succor another party.

The second disc starts off with the impressive "I Am Iron Man," a 108 miniature making of documentary that can be viewed in seven segments or altogether, taking us through various aspects of the production. For example, we are taken step-by-step through the construction of the Iron Man armor with Robert Downey Jr. cracking jokes while being fitted for it. It's improbable how mighty of the suit is practical and looks really pleasurable in person. This is due in mountainous piece to the genius of the late-great Stan Winston and his company. Also included is plenty of soundstage footage of scenes being filmed.

"The Invincible Iron Man" is a six-part documentary on the silly book, tracing the history of the character. Stan Lee says that he modeled Stark after Howard Hughes, for the most fragment. He also mentions that he was never fully contented with the scrutinize of the armor - hence its many changes over the years. This doc also covers various key characters and storylines in splendid detail with several people who worked on the title over the years talking about their contribution to the mythos. This is a very well done overview of the droll book.

"Wired: The Visual Effects of Iron Man" examines the CGI work that went into realizing Iron Man's powers, like flying, his repulsors, and so on. Director Jon Favreau says that he likes to exhaust practical effects whenever possible, which is wonderfully refreshing to hear, and in this film he mixed the practical with CGI.

Now, don't find me depraved, I worship the Favs, but when I heard he was helming a stout budget amusing book flick...let's objective say I was a puny tremulous. Once his cast was dwelling and the fanboys started humming across the internet I started to ease into the decision with high anticipation. Thankfully, after finally seeing the finished product, I was not disappointed in the least. With a mammoth mix of the professionalism and stakes seen in both Spider-Man and X-Men and the laughable wit and sheer fun of Improbable Four, Iron Man shows how a laughable can be brought to the camouflage successfully without all the added drama and weight. We finally have a film with the essence of what makes these describe books so current, the action and mythology along with a sense of adventure and humor. Favreau never bogs us down with overwrought emotions nor speaks down to us with gags and poorly written jokes. Instead he delivers on his promises and gives us a solid initiation into what could be a expansive trilogy or more.

Favreau seems to have had an thought to win an origin yarn out while not humdrum us with long drawn out support record. I'm certain there was some ad-libbing, but even if not, his humorous delivery and ability to switch on a dime to a genuine seriousness at will shows his masterful craft.

As for the rest of the cast, they all do well. Jeff Bridges plays the bombastic creature of villainy over-the-top, but appropriately so; Terrence Howard is nice as the friend and military liaison, not given grand to do, but definitely sowing seeds for the future; and Gwyneth Paltrow is kindly as the sweet assistant Pepper Potts who at times seems a miniature underwritten and more female prop than anything else, but comes through with some nice moments in a very laughable sort of blueprint. I also really liked Shaun Toub as Yinsen, Stark's savior, and Clark Gregg as the head of S.H.I.E.L.D. Safe to examine Favreau giving another actor turned director props, (Gregg's directorial debut comes out later this year in the invent of Chuck Palahniuk's Choke) . I fair wish he would have shied away from putting himself in the film. It's one thing to be seen split-second, (like Stan Lee), but its another to give yourself a thankless role with multiple scenes, unbiased adding fuel to the fire on people's opinions of egotism stemming from the drinking game created off of the TV expose "Dinner for Five" and how many references to Swingers was made each episode. I'll forgive, though, because, once again, I'm a grand fan.

One can't forget that this is an action film above all else, so we can't honest praise the actors; every do is also quite shining. Those scenes of Iron Man flying amongst fighter jets in the trailer seemed really lame, but when in context they issue. The suit itself is fantastic as well, through every mach stage lawful to the ruin. My main highlight, however, was with the computer systems that Stark utilizes. The multiple screens, instant holographic reproductions, and ability to actually interact with those 3D representations is handsome. We can earn them in fantasy, but it's honest too unpleasant we can't yet in precise life.

Now Iron Man is not a perfect film, nor even a perfect droll book adaptation. What it is, though, is a fun, amusing actioner that should light up the box office. The final showdown is a bit of a whimper in comparison to the help fable and machine creation; a crucial element is saved from destruction in the one contrived bit of cloak writing, (not quite utilized in the blueprint I understanding, although unexcited for the same means) ; and some moments seem a tad campy rather than witty, but otherwise this is some topnotch cinema that should definitely be seen on the titanic mask. I can't wait to study how the narrative progresses in a couple years.

In this age of unbelieveable pablum and slit-your-wrists must-miss television, it is unfathomable to me that this phenomenal, well-written, well-acted, and flat-out incredible television demonstrate has been so badly ragged by NBC, and that they're risky about releasing it on DVD. Honest this week I happened on the season premiere of 4th season, hidden away on the schedule at 7:30 SATURDAY night, and this after three seasons of bouncing it around the schedule like an unwanted stray. It's as though the network wants to ruin it, when it could be, if given the chance, every bit as astronomical a success as "Friends," "Fraiser," and "Will & Grace." Yes, it's quirky, but it's a masterpiece of television genius, and deserves better treatment. I hope to peruse the early seasons on DVD soon!

I was hoping for another secret must like us fans of the movie "Aliens" have been wanting another "Aliens" and all squeals have fallen short.

And unfortunately this film falls short of what I was also wanting another "The Secret" the Modern Edition (which I have watched at least 100 times.) Not the "Extended Edition" which should be named "We chop Ester Hicks/Abraham-Hicks out becuase we did not want to honor our royalty agreement any longer" The vibration and feeling it totally different. But I digress serve to this film.

First off the production values are dreadful, poor green conceal, the relate looks pixelated and it construct me feel like they honest don't care enough to do it fair. If your going to wobble on the success of the secret and sell to the same audience which is what they are attempting to do by calling it "Beyond The Secret" then you MUST have the same level of production and visual quality or you are going to disappoint people(becuase the secret was a pleasure to recognize.) That's unbiased luminous marketing. Being what this movie is they should have given it a different name because the Secret is a hard act to follow.

Now for the narrate...becuase I don't mind watching a straight up lecture with a person standing at the podium shot on a home video camera if the protest is noble.

Next this is not really "Beyond" it more like "The Remedial Secret" or "Special Ed Secret" for people not ready to manifest on higher levels.

It starts with Bob Proctor basically says most of what he said in the secret but less of the critical stuff on the subconscious mind.

Most of this movie is about getting you to capture action rather than honest doing the visualization. It makes it sound like more work which many people feel is what should be taught and plan that "The Secret" was impartial pie in the sky and not realistic and left that out. Yet humorous how so many people have stories of manifestations including myself.

The truth is there are many different levels of Manifestation from those that require work to those that do not require anything but intent and desire(I personally delight in the later the most) This film is for those that want to manifest on the first level and are not ready to travel on to higher levels of manifestation yet in my notion. I have manifested with work and really with almost none at all in life. So all levels have their site. But hey you have to tear before you can hasten and it all depends on your goals as well some do require physical work.

For me I did not rep this all that informative (but I have been studying 20 years I did not learn great from "The Secret" but it really inspired me) So if you are unusual to this stuff you might learn some profitable things here.

To me it was not all that appealing and actually rather limiting in terms of what is possible and how you can do it.

This film at times seems to perceive to buy the "Hows" encourage from the universe and obtain you to figure out the "Hows" yourself and one author even gives you very favorable process on how to do this by interesting beyond your beget cramped thinking.

Let me sum it up this diagram. I remember lovingly watching Mr Ed when I was a kid, although not a exiguous child, in the 60's, so I belief I would choose this DVD when I heard it was coming out. I was expecting to score something perhaps childish and a microscopic corny, but to my surprise, it's very funny--in fact, it holds up very well and is quite consuming for everyone, not objective the kids. Actually Ed can be quite frisky. The comedy is spacious for all the family, but I have to admit the demonstrate is always at it's best when Mr Ed is in the scene. It loses something when there is too great human interaction and Ed is out of the recount. Mr Ed was truly one of a kind and that jabber fit him perfectly. A level-headed savory and charming point to.

I've watched many of the episodes on the unusual DVD release and can definitely recommend it. The visual quality was great better than I expected, given that all 21 episodes are packed on 2 disks. They explore at least as profitable, if not better, than what is shown on TV Land. (Though not up to the standard of the Dick Van Dyke transfers) . I don't assume many people will be dissappointed by the portray quality. I also belief the episode selection was splendid obedient. Naturally, some grand ones were left off, but the 21 on this space are, without examine, some of the better episodes. All of these are on the VHS tapes released by Columbia House a few years ago.

For those of you who mediate extras are so well-known, forget about it. There aren't any. Unbiased the 21 shows, complete from open to achieve. Oh, by the intention, it's a large indicate. But you already knew that, didn't you!

Don't Disappear is faulty and totally incredible and its plump of unbridled histrionics, but luckily Penelope Cruz's impassioned performance as an unglamorous, multi-ethnic refuge living in Italy saves the day in this awkward and structurally uneven melodrama. This film is all about men and how they cheat on women, and how women are the victims of men and how men demolish up getting what they want no matter what the cost to women.

Sergio Castellito - also the movie's director - plays wealthy doctor Timoteo. Life seems respectable as he has a decorous marriage to the loving Elsa (Claudia Gerini), a brittle, ridiculously attractive clotheshorse and a thriving career. One afternoon, on the plan to a medical conference, his car breaks down, so he enlists the support of Italia (Cruz), a trashy hotel cleaner.

Their relationship begins on a dreadfully violent trace - he brutally rapes her, treating her as an flee valve for his worst fantasies of dominance. But something also begins to method him attend to her. Unashamedly lying to his wife, Timoteo returns again and again to Italia and the two gradually originate something resembling a relationship. The sex is also remarkably devoid of titillation, with the most immoral scene coming about half plan through the film where Italia and Timoteo have rain-soaked and grubby sex in the assist of a filthy shadowy alley - she even gets to sustain her red shoes on.

By then the film has sort of ragged out it's welcome, and most viewers will probably be tired of all the morbid and somewhat misogynistic histrionics being played out. Castellito does solid work as the meticulous doctor who spends most of the movie behaving like a jerk and Cruz definitely select the expose as Italia. She gives an earthy, rounded and totally vulnerable performance complete with blowsy makeup, crummy teeth, too-tight skirts, and wild hair -- but she gets you to feel for her character and even understand what makes her tick.

The movie as a whole is unbiased so unfocused and dramatically strained, and the epic is all over the state. Also, the inclusion of western pop music at sure moments doesn't fit with the memoir and it's gross to gaze how Italia would cling to a man so willing to abuse her - yes, there is a reason she's like this, but that doesn't construct it any more realistic that she would let it happen.

Indeed, there are some much emotional moments that work well, but for most of the movie you feel like you're being manipulated by blatant and contrived melodramatics. Mike Leonard July 06.

"Don't Recede" is an Italian film starring Penelope Cruz ('Vanilla Sky') who is doing what other actresses (Juliette Binoche in 'Cache') have done. Well, Timoteo returns to his life and proposes to his girlfriend...But eventually returns to Italia to status things right; But then he continues having an affair with her. I reflect the ending is kind of predictable, you know which diagram the romance is heading throughout the entire thing but I don't believe the writers gave a damn whether you knew that or not. This movie has some comely scenes and radiant dialogue, which probably wouldn't work in an American film. Director Castellitto is a gifted director that is also a astounding actor, he really puts his heart into his performance. As for Cruz, she's titanic too. She gives an Oscar expedient performance but, oddly enough, she looks like crap. I don't know if they didn't let her wear makeup or honest attach too remarkable on. I mean she really looks awful in this movie. If you contemplate Penelope Cruz is hot, don't view this movie because it might extinguish your notion of her. Also, if you're renting this movie merely for sex scenes (the mask strongly implies that there are some) this isn't your movie. There's several sex scenes, but there's microscopic nudity in this film. The only nudity is shown during hospital scenes. But, if you're into foreign films that are wonderfully done and have astounding acting. Then check this movie out.

I was a fan of A Haunting when it ran on the Discovery channel and I was very unlit to spy them slay this prove. A Haunting was produced by Unusual Dominion Pictures, who did the FBI Files and the Current Detectives series that also ran on Discovery. For those who are not familiar with the demonstrate, A Haunting covers precise life experiences of encounters with the paranormal. Interviews with people who experienced the paranormal activity are included. Some appear in shadow and the display is augmented by reenactments of their stories. What sets this present apart from others is the high quality production values and interview with both the individuals and the paranormal investigators who assisted them and shed light into their craft. The various methods of scientific gape and differing types of hauntings, demons, phantoms and etc. are enthralling. This present is scary, (scarier than many scare movies, it was so well produced) there is no gore, but the atmosphere is extremely creepy. If you sight some of these episodes unhurried at night, they can give people dreadful dreams, as seveal of my coworkers will attest. It is so well done, that the actors simply blend into the roles. There are four seasons in this region. I will allotment some of my favorites.

A Haunting is an good present that will gain you deem twice about how to peer the world. It is also fascinating to spy how the people handled what they experienced. Some turned to their faith, others turned away and many who did not enjoy in the paranormal now do.
First, there are some abominable points. The DVDs gain almost forty hours of A Haunting, the complete seasons 1-4, and if you see them all at once, they got used quickly. Plus, all my friends whined about the series being repetitious and some were not impressed with the documentary style. But let's face it, no one would lift this if he or she wasn't a fan of A Haunting, so I don't reflect that matters. It's enormous to have the entire series on DVD! It's extraordinary to be able to stare episodes I've missed! There are nine DVDS, each in its possess box, with a few DVDs on each disk. The episode selection menu changes halfway through, and that's unfamiliar. But overall, the DVDs are easy to expend and really fun to glimpse! And if nothing else, if you really want to torture your normal friends, you can suggest an A Haunting marathon. That's what I did.

Rarely does a movie do justice to a book, but Fred Zinneman's production of "The Day of the Jackal" is incredible adaptation of Frederick Forsyth's original which, I continue to bear, is one of the greatest thrillers ever written.

It's hard to set aside a finger on what exactly makes this film great: agreeable performances by relatively unknown actors, a incredible station, astounding situation shooting or a complete desire to avoid the bells and whistles, special effects laden movies that are all that makes up the "suspense" genre of films these days. Like other reviewers have said, be this the first or the fiftieth time that you inspect this film, you will be left on the edge of your seat with its "cat and mouse" area of the search for a lone assassin hired to assassinate President De Gaulle. The young Edward Fox is knowing in the title role and the supporting cast obliging.

If anything, this film proves that you do not need stout named stars, explosions around every corner or computer generated effects to originate a unbelievable film. The only downside to watching this film is that you realise that the movie industry unbiased does not build films like this any more.

Well, up front...I am an Edward Fox fan. Have been since he lumbered around in the 1966 FROZEN Expressionless as Nazi Popcicle #3. Hey, he was one well-kept fozen wearisome!! He had several apt roles in next few years, but really stood out as Ian McShane's fellow flyer in THE BATTLE OF BRITAIN. They stole the demonstrate in a cast of shapely Brits - Lord Larry, Michael Caine, Ralph Richardson and Robert Shaw, fair to name a few - firmly setting their star potential. But Edward really carved his chunk of attention for the role as the Jackal in the 1973 DAY OF THE JACKAL.

The film is a tight production, nearly boarding on documentary. Edward portrays the meticulous hitman of many disguises who has been hired to execute Charles de Gaulle. Based on the glance modern from Frederick Forsyth, director Fred Zinnermann focuses on the French detectives racing to track down the elusive Jackal before it's too tedious, and well as the dispassionate, professional preparations by Fox. But you are in two minds, actually. Fox is so winning in the performance, fleshing out the Jackal objective not as a coldblooded killer, but as a man, so you oddly almost root for him to succeed, at the same time cheering for him to fail.

With the marvellous supporting cast of Derek Jacobi, Alan Badel, Maurice Denham, Cyril Cusack, the faced paced script by Kenneth Ross (Breaker Morant) keeps you absorbed from beginning to extinguish.

I impartial recenlty bought this DVD and I must say, it is an superior seize. I am not a hugh fan of Anime, but this one is definitely worth a second view.

The yarn is position in a future world where titanic amounts of pollution has made the earth's air unbreathable and everyone must wear a veil to avoid brathing in the toxic gases. The crime rate has risen to a crime being committed every 36 seconds and the mayor forms an elite fighting force know as the "Tank Police". When a modern crime gang (Led by the Cyborg, Buaku and the Cat Sisters, Anna & Uni Puma) wrecks havoc in Newport city, young Leona Ozaki is transferred to the "Tank Poilce" squad. After wrecking the "Squad Commander's" (Charles Brenten) personal armored tank, Leona hand-makes a miniature Mini-tank (Nicknamed: Bonaparte) out of parts of the "Squad Commander's" possess Tank. This unusual mini-Tank is a force to be reckoned with as it goes head to head with the criminals in an awesome action packed showdown.

Orginally released in Japan in 1989 as a two share movie. (The movie was later dubbed to English and released in the U.S. in 1993), the movie is clearly Anime at it's finest (With no computer graphic effects) . The DVD includes both parts (All 4 acts) and features dual languages (English and Japanese. I recommend that people discover the film in the Japanese version becuase some dialog and music is deleted/changed in the English version.) Filled with lots of action sequence and hilarious one-liners, that will retain you on the edge of your seat, "Diminion: Tank Police" is no Saturday morning cartoon.

I was actually amazed to survey at the extinguish of act 4 that I'd watched the whole thing. Tank Police is plot in 4 acts, but in fact there are two stories on this disk. The first record, in acts 1 and 2, plot up the characters, the environment, and the internal conflict about the Tank Police. The second account, in acts 3 and 4, are about the criminal Buaku, his origins, and being human.

In act 1 and 2, the reasons for the crime isn't explained at all, and isn't alluded to at all in acts 3 and 4. Ample mystery. The slapstick is sorta silly. The tanks peep rediculous, but around about the middle of act 2, you no longer eye. You feel for Leona, exiled to welfare for wrecking Squad Commander's "tank special". You feel a slight amazed that she is allowed to perform a puny tank out of the wrecked tank after this order is given. (But never mind, it wouldn't be nearly as fun later if she wasn't around.) This first account, wonderful this DVD as "unbiased another anime". Fortunately, there were two more acts.

The later acts begin out vague, but riveted me to my seat. I couldn't have torn myself away from the tube if I'd wanted to. The back-story about Buaku and his reasons for stealing the record are deeper than I was willing to give this anime credit for. Then the interaction between Leona and Buaku as the record comes out is nothing short of magical. Leona is forced to glance this hated criminal, who she can't compose a deal with to establish her life because she is a "tank police", as a person. And Buaku sees that not all humans are abominable, sparing Leona's life even though she wouldn't originate the deal.

The animation is okay, with some shots seemingly stills with enhanced flashing bits to obtain them "disappear". Not as poor as some, and never a whole scene.

As for technical merits, the menus are easy to follow, the transfer is qualified enough average. Sound is mono, but maybe thats all there ever was.

And finally, I must mention that if you are into lowbrow humor that none of us would ever be caught plain actually laughing at (we are all grown-up here, good? ) purchase this one for the "anti tank" weapons in act 2. Absolutly hillarious!

The producers decided to add some controversy and spice to the explain with a May-December romance between Sue Ellen (Linda Gray) and her son's trainer, Peter (special guest Christopher Atkins) . Woe to anyone that stands in his draw...and that applies to family members, too.

Linda Gray has really grown as an actress and she gets many chances to expose her thespian skills. Besides that, her distinctive plod, along with her apt figure, is presented in several key scenes around the Ewing pool.

With those three aforementioned major situation developments propelling mighty of the season, it would be easy to concentrate on those solely; however, this is "Dallas" and, like the situation in which the soap takes site, is bigger and other epic lines and characters routinely catch center stage.

Steve Kanaly and Susan Howard (Ray and Donna Krebbs) are highlighted as their characters acquire embroiled in a case of euthanasia. Guest star Kate Reid is memorable as Ray's Aunt Lil.

Morgan Brittany shines as Katherine Wentworth, Pam's sister, who will do anything (including sleep with J.R) to conquer Bobby.

Ken Kerchevel's Cliff Barnes is calm as social-climbing as ever, willing to sacrifice his morals, his family, and even his girlfriend Afton (Audrey Landers) to conclude his spot in Dallas society and power.

Speaking of Afton, she continues to be the quiet conscious of the present, being the first to stare Katherine's deviousness, Pam's inability to shake her divorce with Bobby, and her enjoy dwindling relationship with Barnes. Landers' skill as an actress, as well as her "telling eyes," is showcased well this season.

J.R.'s secretary, Sly (Deborah Rennard), finds her loyalty tested but turns the tables on her blackmailer and becomes her boss's undercover agent.

New and equally gripping characters are introduced. As mentioned above, Peter becomes the "young stud" in Sue Ellen's life. Though Atkins does an admirable job as the Sue Ellen's suitor, his boyish looks betray him. He appears to be more like seventeen than his loyal twenty-two years. His "intimacies" with the forty-something Gray almost border on the absurd.

40's movie star Alexis Smith joins the cast as Clayton's off-center and mysterious sister, Jessica. It is ironic that both she and Keel were MGM stars during that studios heyday.

The point to would not be complete without appearances of other actors in their respective recurring roles: Fern Fitzgerald (the sexy Marilee Stone), Don Star (Jordan Lee), Morgan Woodward (Punk Anderson), Dennis Patrick (Vaughn Leland), and my personal common Pat Colbert (Dora Mae, the hostess of The Cattleman's Club) .

As far as the DVD quality as a whole is concerned, the recount transfer could be better, befitting the position of the present in television history. If any reveal deserves re-mastery, it is the Lorimar production.

Also, there is only one extra: an piquant, albeit short, spy at the men leisurely the music of "Dallas."
Yee-haw! Season 7 represents the best of DALLAS on all levels -- acting, writing, background music and "all of the above." The present really hits its whisk here, showcasing fun, inventive stories that breathe unique life into the genre, while staying apt to the series' roots and the characters' makeups. Unlike other soaps from the 80s, DALLAS could generate true emotion with its twists and turns and scrutinize Pam and Bobby's divorce with actual heart, drama and even a sense of humor when appropriate. Even this season's cliffhanger reinvented things for DALLAS, which had been trying to outdo the "Who shot J.R.? " cliffhanger for many seasons since that "high." Anyone who counts themselves as a fan of J.R. and company will definitely want to believe Season 7. (And no, I don't have anything to do with the exhibit or the company releasing this DVD -- this is a heartfelt opinon!)

It looks like they are doing the steady same thing as with the DVD, they released the current theatrical versions on DVD, which I bought ALL 3 of, ended up buying the tubby extended edition box situation and giving the 3 theatricals to my sister... this is a colossal product. yes it is in the english language. this season introduces all the main sailor scouts and records their struggles against queen beryl and their quest to remember their pasts. i have thoroughly enjoyed this series, it has taken me attend to after school days when i would gape the note everyday at 4 in the afternoon. the quality is great- you can hiss these are legit and not recorded from someones tripod!! if you like sailormoon, this is a must have.

I LOOOOOOOOOVED Sailor Moon and I enjoyed watching the episodes with my young female students. I even taped all of season one off of TV, editing out the commercials! I've seen all three movies, in Japanese with subtitles. I even believe the soundtrack.

However, Serena was my least accepted character because she was sooooooo cowardly and selfish and whiny. It was such a injure to have the main female hero be so embarassing to glimpse. She had very few redeemable qualities. But her Sailor Scout friends, especially Jupiter, Neptune and Venus, were awesome young ladies who were vivid, talented, savvy in sports, could cook, and even had jobs. They often needed to counsel Serena about how to behave. Mars needed arouse managment Broad TIME! Darien was creepy in an age-inappropriate intention. But then again, I vow as a parent & teacher.

But since there were very few (and composed not many ) anime about girls who fight demons & put the world (while NOT being so bloody/violent/sexist/sexual) - I mercurial forgave Serena for her faults and impartial learned to devour that mantra:

"A Plumbing We Will Go" is possibly the best comedy ever made by the Stooges and alone is worth the tag of admission. Here the Stooges attempt to repair the plumbing in a wealthy household. Of course they don't know what they're doing, as is always the place. They destroy up crossing the electrical system with the plumbing with some hilarious look gags resulting. You'll also peek the Stooges taking advantage of Moe's strong resemblance to a determined German leader as the Stooges exit the depression and enter the war years.
As a long time Stooge fan, its nice Sony is releasing the complete Stooge shorts. My only inquire of is will it halt after Curly? I hope they release Shemp's shorts, even though alot of them are remakes in the later years. I give props for not changing the format of the discs (thus far) and Amazon preorder label is always $17. Like I said in the last review, Stooges have been around for almost 80 years and have a ton of footage on various dvds that could be weak as tall extras. Id like to peruse extra features instead of trailers to movies. All in all, spacious product and maintain up the first-rate work!

Another reviewer mentioned that having Echoes here was worth the label of the DVD alone. I would agree, and add that having Wots..Uh the Deal also makes this worth the bucks. Too many of these songs he has done before ad infinitum (do we really need another win on Coming Befriend to Life or High Hopes?? ), but having this stout track from my common Floyd album "Obscured By Clouds", is objective spacious! Since that album is probably their least known (and certainly most underrated, in my book), it may abet to convince people to go succor and contemplate where this graceful song came from. Other than that, immense relate and sound, and a ton of extras (not to mention what must be 3 1/2 hours of music), makes this one a must-have! And I only paid $11.99!!!

Literally worth five times the imprint and an equal in it's contain design to PULSE, with intimacy and a freer feel offsetting the more minimal lighting (although enormously impressive in its hold correct.)

As the other reviewers have given an honest overview I'll unbiased mention one gash, that being "Comfortably Numb," which you and I know every second of by heart, it's in our blood.

This performance features David Bowie sharing lead vocals. Now the view of anyone but Mr. Gilmour taking over vocals on this song is enough to fabricate my hair fetch on fire, but THIS WORKS. It actually becomes a Bowie song while remaining a Floyd epoch. It's thrilling, it's almost dreamlike to sight a singer of equal caliber and credibility to Mr. Gilmour piece this song and to retract it's inherent drama and mystery to another level entirely.

The DVD also points out what a pleasant disc "On An Island" is, sadly overlooked by too many Floyd fans for not being heavy enough (man.)

And it's in high def - you can almost come out and shake Rick Wright's hand.

Extras are top flight, location is an extraordinary bargain and you'll have worry turning it off and going to bed. Mr. Gilmour once again proves that he's in a class all by himself, a category of artist of which there is only one.

Possibly the funniest musical comedy ever made. Even if you are not a Danny Kaye fan, you should try this movie. Don't be achieve off by the opening sequence, which looks rather dated now. The film contains some excruciatingly comic scenes, including the classic "Flagon with the dragon" routine. This is Kaye at his intelligent best.

The record (area in a mediaeval England which cheerfully makes no attempt at historical accuracy) is remarkably solid and complex, which helps own the film's brisk scoot.

Update: I recently watched this movie again and I mediate my novel 4-star rating was execrable. This is a 5-star classic.
Danny Kaye is a classic example of a wildly talented performer who was not well-served by the movie industry. Sam Goldwyn knew to shoot Kaye in Technicolor to point to off his red hair, but not to give Kaye well-behaved material. In most of Kaye's films he plays some sort of congenital [dounce]. If you deem stupidity came to movies only recently, you've never seen "The Kid from Brookly," "On the Riviera," and similar Kaye [stuff].

"The Court Jester" is a amazing exception. Panama and Frank were at their peak with a wildly convoluted send-up of Robin Hood and similar derring-do. In addition to the clever wordplay, they aren't unnerved to topple to the deliriously unimaginative -- when Glynis Johns, pretending to be a deaf-mute, makes 15 seconds worth of hand gestures that Kaye interprets as "No," he explains it's because she stutters.

The Panama-Frank direction is also on-target. When Kaye and Johns clobber John Carradine, it's shown as shadows on the wall, in the best Michael Curtiz fashion.

Danny Kaye's wife, Sylvia Stunning, wrote a lot of specialty material for him. Her droll songs are often modeled on Gilbert & Sullivan; "The Maladjusted Jester" is her occupy on "Oh, a private buffoon" from "The Yeomen of the Guard." (I suspect she wanted to spend Sullivan's music, but couldn't, as it was collected under British copyright.)

Basil Rathbone reprises Sir Guy from "The Adventures of Robin Hood," and Panama-Frank gave him plenty of cloak time, both as an actor and as a fencer -- Rathbone is the consummate slick villain. And what can one say about Glynis Johns but "exquisite," or Mildred Natwick but "inimitable," or Angela Lansbury but "fleshy"? (Sorry about that.)

Pretty noteworthy a perfect entertainment -- the ideal film to slip away the blues.

This isn't a brainy film, in fact, you definitely have to check your brain at the door for the last 20 minutes of "Paycheck." That's because during all the shooting, as USUAL, the poor guys have exceptionally awful aim. And the first-rate guys can dodge point-blank bullets. But OTHER than that complaint, Paycheck delivers non-stop action and loads of fun in this sci-fi thriller.

Ben Affleck is dazzling as the lead, a thoughtless engineer-for-hire who reverse-engineers any latest technology to collect a jump on the competition. Only, he has to have his memories erased so he won't go and reverse-engineer the intention for someone else. Or anyway, that's the state, so go with it. Uma Thurman plays a biologist who gets eager with Affleck and ends up being his sidekick, though Affleck has had her memory erased and hasn't a clue who she really is. Fun twist on a romance.

The extras are interesting; an alternate ending (yeah, it was weaker, fine they changed it) and a segment about John Woo's technique, qualified for concept this director's outlook on cinema. This is a fun, "entertain-me" film and if there are a few area holes, you can overlook them.

Now the premise of this film might throw you off, but it shouldn't. Colorful that this film is based on the work of Philip K. Dick who wrote Blade Runner, Minority Portray and Total Rob you can request something original. The film while similar to The Bourne Identity definetly has its differences. In fact, Matt Damon was originally offered the lead role in Paycheck but he declined because he said it was too similar to his role in The Bourne Identity.

Essentially, Affleck plays Mike Jennings, a enormous computer engineer. His clever mind has enabled him to invent a fresh program. Mike is soon offered a expansive job offer by his respectable friend Jimmy Rethrick (Aaron Eckhart) . After he's done the job he gets a big paycheck, hence the title of the film. But his memory but be erased, and so he'll have no recollection of what his job was, since it is very secretive and confidential. After his memory is erased he soon learns he has a girlfriend, played by Uma Thurman. She along with his suited friend Shorty played nicely by Paul Giamatti are the only ones he can trust.

Though the movie isn't as predictable as it may seem, it does effect up with some suspense. And as I stated earlier it delivers with the typical action of a John Woo flick. From here we score a mountainous BMW motorcycle fling, (similar to M:I-2, though it's hard to say which was better) along with some other action sequences.

My wife insisted we view this film - since it was not something in which I was involved (dramas and romances are not usually what I recall to gawk) I picked up a book and began reading. Within minutes, I was completely enraptured by this movie and forgot about the book. While a represent with the title TEA WITH MUSSOLINI sounds late, trust me, it's not. It moves forward beautifully telling a accurate anecdote of English and American women in Italy at the breakout of the war and its achieve on them and the Italian child they have all raised together. This is a grand film (an legend in dinky movie disguise) with indelible performances from a perfect cast esp. Cher and Joan Plowright. Why neither they nor this film have appeared on many (if any) best of the year lists is completely mind-boggling to my wife and myself. The play is truly the thing here and director Zeffirelli has done a valid job telling a unbelievable epic (his bear life) that's ultimately irristible. Filled with humor, hope and inspiration - words that usually construct producers cringe these days but words that calm mean the best in astronomical moviemaking. My choice for best film of the year and one of the best of all time. A minor masterpiece. Please give it a try...I don't believe you'll be disappointed if you're looking for something with substantial heart that has something to say about the dignity of the human spirit. The film "Tea with Mussolini" deals with complex issues in such a subtle design that it is easy to dismiss if the viewer overlooks the intriquite relationships of the characters. How the characters evolve from being self-involved (their esteem of the arts and formalities) to becoming caring individuals and creating bonds that overcome the heirarchies of the social class structure due to speed, nationality, war and a young boy that pulls them together. Luca a young Italian boy copes with having no family due to being an illigitamate child in picturesque Italy during The Second World War. Lucas mothers death and his father's refusal to purchase him into his care due to a wife that would not secure him lead him to procure a recent family with his father's secretary (Joan Plowright) and her sociatal peers The Scorpioni (The Scorpions) named for the groups appealing wit and poisonous bite. This group takes young Luca into their privliged clique and shares in the education and introduces young Luca to The Arts which is the groups passion. Petite do they know that by doing this they have began on a road to self change that will alter thier concept on the world, thier friendships and detestations of others in the group. This film is a yarn of compassion, friendship, art, family, accepatance, change, egos, jeolousy and shows the letting go of beliefs and the opening of hearts. The cast is first rate with the likes of Cher, Maggie Smith, Joan Plowright, Lily Tomlin and Judi Dench along with the perfect casting of the character Luca played by Baird Wallace (Luca: teenager) and Charlie Lucas (Luca: child) both of these gorgeous young actors will grab the viewers heart and develop him want to abet with the caring of and the education of this heart grabbing character. Luca's troubles will affect the viewer and pull at one's heartstrings. Baird Wallace is talented young actor that holds his contain and deserves praise and search for from the industry. The premise of this most original war film is that Britain was invaded and occupied after the Dunkirk retreat, and in a mixture of documentary and chronicle styles it sets out to roar the account of the occupation that the country narrowly (some would say, unaccountably) escaped, up to and including the 'liberation', orchestrated by the efforts of local partisans with American assistance, in the war's closing year.

It is hard to fill that this film began its life as the spare-time project of 18-year-old Kevin Brownlow, a film enthusiast working in the cutting-room of a microscopic London production company, and his 16-year-old schoolboy friend Andrew Mollo, who had a passion for military history and a collection of traditional German uniforms and regalia. Starting without a budget, using a borrowed 16 mm camera, the two doggedly pursued their dream of completing the project for almost eight years, finding actors, actresses, sets and backing as they went along.

This is a low-key, reflective war drama, which follows its central character, an Irish- born district nurse working in a village approach Salisbury, through the horrors of a partisan ambush that goes contemptible, to a chilling Nazi-dominated vision of London, where she finds herself assimilated into the highly political "Immediate Action Organization" and receives her "political re-education", on to a rural medical centre specializing in euthanasia for "undesirables", through to the final chilling irony of "liberation" and the wholesale slaughter of "collaborators".

The most famed sequence in the work is a six-minute scene in which estimable Neo- Nazis expound their ideas. The Directors were required to chop this sequence at the behest of its first distributor, United Artists, but it has now been reinstated.

I found this film disturbing, unsettling, unforgettable. The scale of the achievement fervent in the creation of a work of this quality from such humble beginnings can hardly be overstated.

I'll launch off by unprejudiced mentioning a few minor niggles. Firstly, the film is presented in a TV 4:3 aspect ratio. I don't know what print was available to the DVD's producers, but the modern aspect ratio (1.85:1 at a guess) would have been more elegant. The movie's ending is also quite abrupt - I had to gawk twice when the film's waste title appeared. And finally, the 1974 follow-up documentary 'It Happened Here Again' which appears on some VHS versions, is sadly missing from this DVD. Now that's out of the arrangement, please ignore what I've unbiased written as the DVD's excellent points far outweigh the awful. The film was produced at a time when 'warts and all' realism was the driving force unhurried many films and TV productions. Thus we peep British citizens act as willing collaborators to the Nazi invaders, even up to the point of murdering Jews and the massacre of surrendering German soldiers. ***1/2 ... I finally broke down and rented "The Dish," a good myth about the limited group of men working at a satellite dish in a remote fraction of Australia who, in July 1969, played a major piece in helping to transmit the first live images of a man walking on the moon.

In fact, it is this sense of ordinary people suddenly finding themselves a fraction of history that makes "The Dish" more than simply a clever, likable comedy. We procure ourselves genuinely touched and moved by mighty of what we gape on cloak.

Perhaps, after the tragedy of the World Trade Center attacks - during which people all over the world sat riveted in morbid fascination to their television sets watching that horrifying event unfold - the film attains an added poignancy. It reminds us a bit of our lost innocence as we discover the people in this film staring spellbound at their television sets 32 years earlier for a far different purpose - to seek, as a united, worldwide community, the Apt things mankind can do when he puts his mind to it rather than the faulty. I managed to plunge asleep on a friend's sofa and missed the moon landing, so I found this film not only gently intriguing but also oddly rewarding. The build-up to the Apollo 11's successful mission, as delivered by this script, is warmly personalized and made remarkably original. This is accomplished by some elegant ensemble acting intercut with stock footage from around the world that is almost seamlessly blended into the account. Instead of looking very out of set, as most stock footage does, in this case the era is so nicely established by the costumes, the characters, the settings and especially the soundtrack, scenes shot support in July of 1969 seem very timely and appropriate. It's a credit to director Sitch that there's nothing maudlin about the film; it's low-key and sweetly droll and yet surprisingly titillating. And it's particularly gratifying to behold Sam Neill turn in an effectively low-key performance, after appearances in some dazzling cross American films.
